Mitral Valve Stenosis

Symptoms

Mild or moderate mitral valve stenosis may not cause any symptoms but may be detected by the presence of a heart murmur during a routine checkup. Symptoms of severe mitral valve stenosis may include the following:

  • Shortness of breath or breathing fast
  • Palpitations (heart fluttering)
  • Lightheadedness, dizziness, or fainting
  • Difficulty gaining weight, especially in infants and small children
