Restrictive Cardiomyopathy

Treatment

Treatment includes therapies specific to the underlying condition causing the restrictive cardiomyopathy.

Treatment for symptoms of heart failure in restrictive cardiomyopathy includes diuretics to help reduce the congestion. Other medications traditionally used in heart failure may not benefit restrictive cardiomyopathy. The patient should also limit their sodium (salt) intake.

If atrial fibrillation is present, patients should be on blood thinning medications to prevent strokes, and patients may be considered for therapies to keep their hearts in a normal rhythm.
